Pro-war zealots are trying to get their way, but social media journalists are making the job harder and harder for them.

Pro-war zealots are trying to get their way, but social media journalists are making the job harder and harder for them

The U.S government is not a unified architecture of power, but an institution that is mired with contradictions and opposing voices. Since its inception, the US government has had strong elements within it that have pushed for war. Presidents who were formerly against war reluctantly, but then enthusiastically, opted for war after much pressure from overzealous pro-war parts of the U.S establishment.

Yet time and time again, the U.S has faced the disastrous consequences of war that have benefited no one except the arms merchants and the overall military-industrial complex that profit from arms sales and other auxiliary benefits. Journalists, intellectuals and political pundits alike have all warned against the disasters of U.S-led aggression but much of it throughout the last few decades have fallen on deaf ears. Now with the rise of social media and more historical awareness, the U.S population has little patience for war. As a result, the voices of anti-war journalists are growing more and more more authoritative in the social media world.

Take for example the current crisis in Iran with its on-going protests. Despite the complexities concerning Iran’s situation which is a mix of some legitimate local grievances and foreign meddling by entities that seek regime change, some overzealous elements of the US government have been pushing for war and they are doing their utmost to convince President Donald Trump to go to war. Yet the appetite for war is little and the voices of opposition to it are growing stronger and stronger. Take Caitlin Johnstone whose opposition to interventionism is going viral throughout social media:

Is this the beginning of a new era?
